Muskegon County, MI – An explosion that leveled a home in eastern Muskegon County critically injured two people Tuesday afternoon.
The house in the 1900 block of South Barnes Road, described as a large two-story, was reported blown off its foundation into the basement and engulfed in flames in the incident that occurred around 3:15 p.m. Nov. 19.
The patients suffered severe head injuries and serious burns, firefighters reported from the scene. A medical helicopter was requested to transport the patients from the scene in Egelston Township, but they were transported by ground ambulance.
Nearby residents reported their houses shook from the force of the explosion.
The location on Barnes Road is north of Evanston Avenue and east of Maple Island Road. Barnes was shut down between Apple Avenue and Evanston.
Egelston Township Fire Department responded to the scene along with Moorland Fire and other departments. The Muskegon County Sheriffs Office also responded and a fire investigator from the Michigan State Police was requested for assistance
