Vernon, NY – Authorities say a woman and her two young children have been hospitalized with burns after their mobile home was destroyed in an explosion in central New York.
Officials with the Vernon Fire Department say the explosion happened around 7 p.m. Sunday at the Quiet Valley Trailer Park in Vernon Center, 14 miles west of Utica. Officials say a 21-year-old woman and her two children, ages three and five, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Fire Chief Peter Ropetski says it appears the explosion happened in the kitchen and involved a propane heating or cooking source. He says the neighboring home where the children’s grandmother lived is uninhabitable because of damage from debris.
The cause of the explosion is under investigation.
