Warwick, RI – Firefighters battled a boat fire off Oakland Beach on Saturday afternoon.
The Fire Department received a call at 4:45 p.m. about a boat fire at Fairwinds Marina, at 2 Seminole St., according to Battalion Chief Alan Gouveia.
When fire crews arrived, the 1989 cruiser was fully involved at the end of the fuel dock, he said. An unidentified man, who had been on the boat at the start of the blaze, suffered minor to moderate first- and second-degree burns on his extremities and was taken to the hospital for treatment, he said.
The theory is that it was a fuel vapor explosion, he said.
The state Department of Environmental Management spill-response team arrived to contain the gasoline spill in the water.
The state fire marshal and DEM are investigating.
