Laurel, DE – Propane gas is believed to have caused
an explosion that flattened a residence outside
Laurel late Monday, injuring several family
members, according to Laurel Fire Chief Steve
Brittingham.
The parents and three children, inside the residence
when the explosion occurred, were taken to area
hospitals, including Peninsula Regional Medical
Center in Salisbury, Brittingham said.
Their conditions were not immediately available.
The residence is at 31332 Dogwood Lane, a
community of about six homes in the immediate
area.
One firefighter said flames were not visible when
emergency crews arrived at about 9:45 p.m., leading
authorities to immediately suspect gas.
No other residences in the area were evacuated,
Brittingham said, adding that an investigation into
the cause of the explosion continues.
