Rancho Cordova, CA-

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. (AP) — A home has exploded in Northern California, injuring at least five people and creating a fireball that witnesses said climbed four stories high.

Footage from a television news helicopter showed only charred cinders where the Rancho Cordova home had stood before the Wednesday afternoon explosion. Houses on either side also were damaged.

Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District spokesman Christian Pebbles told KCRA-TV3 that at least three people were critically injured.

Pebbles said officials believe the explosion was caused by a natural gas leak, prompting them to evacuate nearby homes.

Rancho Cordova is about 10 miles east of Sacramento.
