Chicago, IL- A home exploded in the 6700 block of South Blackstone in the Woodlawn neighborhood early Thursday.
Firefighters responded to reports of an explosion at a house at 6735 S. Blackstone Ave. at about 6:30 a.m. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered an explosion and partial-collapse in the front of the building, according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Joseph Roccasalva.
No injuries were reported, but the South Side home was destroyed by what an initial investigation indicates was a natural gas explosion.
Crews were onhand at 6:45 a.m., as the home’s roof and walls were scattered across the street.
The explosion triggered a fire which was quickly brought under control.
A Level 1 Hazmat situation was also called but that, too, was under control as of 7 a.m.
