Newport, ME – A 73-year-old Connecticut man was injured Thursday morning in a gas explosion at his summer lakeside home in Newport.
Officials said Donald Lamson of Westbrook, Conn., was taken to a Pittsfield hospital and then airlifted to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after the explosion, which happened at about 7:30 a.m.
Spokesman Steve McCausland of the Maine Public Safety Department said neighbors found Lamson inside the doorway of his camp after hearing the blast. Lamson had been staying at the camp on the shore of Sebasticook Lake for most of the summer.
Investigators from the state fire marshal’s office are trying to determine what caused the blast. McCausland said it appears to be a liquid propane explosion. The camp was heated by gas.
