Cameron, NC – A laundromat’s industrial-sized water heater exploded Monday
morning, blowing out the business’ windows and injuring one employee.
The employee’s injuries were minor, said Spout Springs Fire Department Chief
Alan Jarvis.
Jarvis said the water heater exploded about 8:30 a.m. at J&R Laundromat, 975
N.C. 24. He said the employee and a customer were the only people in the
business.
Jarvis said the water heater is powered by propane. He said firefighters
were still investigating the cause of the accident Monday afternoon. He said
he believed the explosion was accidental.
Firefighters stopped gas and water service to the business, he said. Jarvis
said the business will likely stay closed until the owner can replace the
water heater and repair damage to the building.
“It blew out glass, the front windows, and it busted down doors,” Jarvis
said. “It was a pretty good explosion.”
