Brownsville, TX – The Brownsville Herald – Authorities are investigating the cause of a Monday night gas explosion that sent three Southmost-area men, to local hospitals.

Brownsville Fire Chief Lenny Perez said three men were injured in the explosion, including one that was “seriously burned.”

Dispatch records show that a fire with injuries was reported at a small structure behind a home on 34 Encino Street at 8:24 p.m. Monday.

Although the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Perez said firefighters believe the men were changing a propane tank when the explosion happened.

The home’s owner declined an interview, but neighbors said the men were installing a gas stove in a guest home behind the main house.
