Springfield, MA – Investigators suspect a natural gas leak may have caused an explosion that blew the roof off the clubhouse at a condominium complex in Springfield.
Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger says no one was injured in the blast, which occurred just after 5 p.m. Thursday at the Hampden Gate Condominiums.
Leger says when firefighters arrived, the roof of the clubhouse building was gone and debris was scattered about the parking lot. The brick walls of the building, which includes a swimming pool, were still standing.
The force of the explosion caused some structural damage to an adjacent building.
Residents of the complex said they heard and felt the blast, including one woman who said pictures were flying off the walls of her home.
