Mira Loma, CA – Melissa Pinion-Whitt, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin – A broken natural gas line led to a house explosion and the evacuation of about 45 homes Tuesday morning.

Two residents were inside a home in the 5700 block of Lucretia Avenue just after 9 a.m. when a build-up of gas caused an explosion, said Riverside County fire Capt. Julie Hutchinson. The explosion caused about $50,000 damage, but there were no reported injuries.

Twenty-five firefighters arrived at the scene and evacuated about 45 homes after people reported smelling gas in the area.

Southern California Gas Co. personnel and other workers drilled to locate the leak and then repaired the gas line.

Residents from about 34 homes, who had been evacuated to Laramore Park and Sky Country Middle School, were allowed back in their homes about 12:30 p.m. Additional residents whose homes were closest to the leak remained evacuated longer as a precautionary measure, Hutchinson said.
