Chestertown, MD – Authorities are investigating a Wednesday afternoon propane gas explosion that ruined a Chestertown apartment building.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says the incident occurred at 3:03 p.m. at 2 1/2-story wood-frame apartment building on Washington Avenue.

According to investigators, an LP gas explosion occurred in the basement of the six-unit complex. It took firefighters about 10 minutes to get the ensuing blaze under control.

There were no reported injuries. The explosion caused an estimated $500,000 in damage to the building.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
