Bainbridge Island, WA – A Bainbridge Island man was not hurt in a propane explosion at his Wing Point home Tuesday afternoon, according to the Bainbridge Island Fire Department.
Assistant Chief Jared Moravec said crews were called to the home, on the 6400 block of Wing Point Way, for a fire alarm at about 1:20 p.m. The explosion didnt cause much of a fire, but it damaged a floor and blew out a door in a basement, where crews believe propane from a leak collected and somehow ignited, Moravec said.
The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, but Moravec said it appears the fireplace, which runs on propane, may have been the source of the leak. The cost of damages was unknown Tuesday.
