Turlare County, CA – A propane tank explosion leveled a dormitory for maintenance workers at Montecito Lodge in the Giant Sequoia National Monument Wednesday.
Tulare County firefighters said one employee, identified as Don Anderson, was asleep inside the building when the explosion occurred at 9 a.m.
Anderson was taken to a Reedley hospital for treatment of minor injuries, the fire department reported.
The explosion occurred in a large propane tank that fed the buildings heating system. The cause is being investigated.
Montecito is a privately owned lodge that caters to cross-country skiers on a section of Generals Highway between Kings Canyon and Sequoia national parks.
