Bailey, CO – Denver Channel – Three people were injured in a propane explosion near Bailey in Park County Tuesday morning.

According to the Park County Sheriff’s Office, all three were rushed to the hospital.

Timothy Bird, 34, was airlifted to University Hospital with second-degree burns over 55 percent of his body and third-degree burns on his hands, Platte Canyon Fire Chief Jeff Davis said.

Bird’s mother and another woman received minor injuries were taken to Swedish Hospital. Their identities were not immediately released.

The explosion occurred in a home just before 11:30 in the 200-block of Tincup Terrace, off Deer Creek Road. Baptist Bible Church of Denver owns the home.

Davis said the explosion occurred when Bird was attempting to light a hot water heater. The source of the leaking propane is still under investigation.

The stone home was heavily damaged and has been condemned, Davis said.
