NEW KENSINGTON, Pa. – A man accidentally left his car running in the garage of his Westmoreland County home, filling the house with carbon monoxide gas which killed him and his mother, police said.
The 56-year-old man and his 78-year-old mother were found Monday in the Lower Burrell Township home after the man’s employer called police because he hadn’t showed up for work, Lower Burrell police Sgt. Scott Cardenas said. The victims names were not immediately released.
Cardenas said he found about four days worth of mail and newspapers and got no answer at the front door or by telephone. Authorities entered the home through a window and smelled carbon monoxide gas.
The man was found in the basement where he was apparently using a ham radio; the woman was found on the first floor.
New Kensington is about 15 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
