Lockport, IL – Tribune – A Lockport man who was blown out his front door when his house exploded remained in critical condition at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood on Friday, authorities said.

Lockport fire officials and Nicor Gas investigators did not know why Michael Guzik’s home exploded Thursday as he opened his front door, said Carmen Morales, a spokeswoman for Nicor.

“It was a natural-gas explosion,” Morales said Friday. “It will be months before we know what caused it.”

The blast occurred about 10:30 a.m. in the 1400 block of Peachtree Lane, said Fire Chief Rob Cronholm. When firefighters got to the scene, the back of Guzik’s home had collapsed and fire was coming out the top.

While Guzik was taken to the hospital, his two pets, a cat and dog, were rescued, Cronholm said.
