Springfield, MO – Investigators say a natural gas leak caused an explosion and fire inside an apartment on Monday morning.
The fire happened at a building with both businesses on bottom and apartments on top near Boonville Avenue at Scott Street, across from the Greene County Judicial Courts Facility. Firefighters contained the fire to one unit, which happens to be vacant. The other apartments and two businesses below have smoke and water damage.
Firefighters estimate the damage to the unit at nearly $45,000. The American Red Cross is helping displaced apartment occupants.
