THE BRONX, News 12 – Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed the carbon monoxide detector bill into law Wednesday.
The bill, which is known as 4A, requires landlords to put carbon monoxide detectors in all multi-level dwellings citywide. The bill came about following several incidents this past winter in the Bronx and city that resulted in deaths from carbon monoxide poisoning. Both City Council members and other local lawmakers have supported the bill since it was introduced.
Currently, there is a New York State law that mandates carbon monoxide detectors but it only covers one and two family homes, condos and co-ops built after 2002.
The law will now go into effect in 180 days.
