A Town of Carlton man is in the hospital Saturday morning following an explosion that leveled his family’s two-story home.
The Orleans County Sheriff’s Department said the homeowner smelled propane moments before the blast Friday night.
49-year-old Steven Broadwell and his 23-year-old daughter, Amanda were taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
Amanda is out of the hospital Saturday morning.
Neighbors said the explosion rattled the town.
Shea Heveron explained, “We were having dinner at my parents house, probably a good five miles north and we were sitting at the dinner table and the whole house shook.”
“I never really ever expected this kinda thing to happen to anyone that felt like family to me,” exclaimed family friend, Suzanne Stewart.
Broadwell’s son, Robert was also inside the home.
He was treated and released Friday night.
The cause of the blast remains under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
