MO- KSDK – Investigators have not yet released the cause of an apartment building explosion in St. Louis. It happened Christmas day on Hamilton near Cabanne. One man was critically injured and dozens of others were displaced.

Among those displaced was Anna Mitchell. She says, “The door boom just blew off the hinges. The whole building shook.”

Mike McGee suffered severe burns and is in critical condition at the hospital. Investigators have not yet released an official cause of the blast. However, neighbors here report a strong smell of gas just before it happened.

Gas and power have been shut off here and the building is being condemned. Residents have been forced to find other shelter.

Investigators from Laclede Gas and the St. Louis fire department were at the scene Sunday. They say they are not ready to release their findings about what might have caused this explosion.
