MN – A Litchfield couple escaped from their rural home Friday morning after an apparent explosion related to gas, the Meeker County Sheriff’s Department said.

Larry McMains, 60, and Barbara Ann McMains, 56, awoke in their home near Lake Ripley when they heard the explosion, Chief Deputy Jeff Norlin said. The couple was driving away when they met a sheriff’s deputy, who placed an emergency call at 4:02 a.m.

The deputy reported that the doors and windows were blown out of the McMains’ home and that the home was a total loss, Norlin said. He said it appeared to be an LP gas problem.
