Weston, IL- Investigators determined a propane leak and explosion that destroyed a woman’s house earlier this year in Weston could have been caused by a faulty furnace, a state spokeswoman said.

No one was injured, but people several miles away reported hearing and feeling the blast that occurred Jan. 8 along 2800 North Road, which is three miles south of Weston in rural northeastern McLean County.

Januari Smith, spokeswoman for the office of the state fire marshal, said investigators determined the accident was caused by a propane leak that likely started in the basement.

Investigators think the furnace was the source of the leak, although that remains undetermined, she said.
