Hopewell Township, PA – A state police investigation into an explosion that leveled a York County home last week indicated the blast occurred inside the home.

No one was injured in the explosion that destroyed a home on the 5900 block of Thompson Road in Hopewell Township.

State police said their investigation shows the explosion was consistent with a liquid propane explosion.

They also said the blast occurred in the basement of the home.

Investigators said liquid propane is heavier than air and the gas apparently settled in the basement.

What investigators don’t know yet is what ignited the gas.

Police said the home’s stove and oven were fueled by an outside LP cylinder. The cylinder did not explode.
