Sodus, NY – It happened in an instant. An explosion inside a home in Sodus turns it into rubble, and a woman inside manages to crawl out without a scratch.

“I was fixing up a dish of food and dropped something on the ground and bent over to pick it up,” she said.

It started out like every other morning for Joy Horton but as she was picking up that spoon from the floor she saw a flash of light.

“Everything came down all I could think of was getting out,” Horton said.

The 73-year-old woman wasn’t giving up.

“At first I didn’t know how I was going to get out until I turned around and saw part of the wall out. I crawled out the kitchen window,” Horton said.

She crawled out from underneath her collapsed house without a scratch.

Investigators spent the day clearing all the rubble to find out how this started. Even cracking a little smile, a very calm joy Horton watched as her homes memories were scattered everywhere.

“Things can be erased, but we have the memories of the thing,” Horton said. “Human life is what matters and the love you get in uniting a family.”

Investigators are still trying to figure out how this happened. They believe the explosion started in the basement. It could be another day or two until they know the exact cause. Horton is staying with relatives.
