LA – An explosion in Vermilion Parish Tuesday morning sent one man to the burn unit of a Baton Rouge hospital.

Parish officials tell TV 10 a home in the 2300 block of LA Highway 35 exploded around 7:30am.

According to Vermilion officials, that’s when 60-year-old Roger Dale Sarver attempted to light a heater in his home.

Dale’s sister recalls how she received the news.

Judy Salver says she got a phone call to go back home and when she got there, the house was burned to the ground.

Sheriff Mike Couvillon tells us an apparent propane leak led to the explosion and fire.

Officials with the state fire marshal’s office are now investigating to determine exactly what happened.

Sarver was transported to the Baton Rouge burn unit with injuries to his upper body.
