Schenectady, NY – Capital News 9 – Investigators said it looks like a gas leak is to blame for Thursday’s house explosion in Schenectady, but city officials said it could take up to a month to find out what exactly happened.

Nothing but rubble is left where Morris Melitzer’s home once stood at 1057 Strong Street.

Neighbors said they smelled gas shortly before the house exploded Thursday afternoon, and officials are taking a look at gas pipes leading into that home.

Crews were doing sidewalk work in front of the house at the time, and fire officials are investigating if they might have ruptured the line.

Melitzer wasn’t home at the time of the blast, and said he’s just glad nobody was hurt.

Two other homes nearby were also damaged
