Albuquerque, NM – KRQE-TV – A gas explosion behind a popular restaurant near the University of New Mexico campus flung debris and lifted the roof off a storage building but didn’t injure anyone Tuesday afternoon.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m., a gas leak ignited in a storage building behind the Frontier Restaurant.The explosion blew the door off the building, which flew by one witness’s vehicle and struck a parked car.

The explosion also lifted the roof off the building before it came crashing back down, reducing the building to rubble.

The Frontier is located is on the southeast corner of Cornell and Central in southeast Albuquerque.

The Albuquerque Fire Department quickly put-out any remaining flames and shut off all natural gas lines in the area. They are currently investigating the cause of the leak and subsequent explosion.
