CLARKSDALE, Miss – Authorities say a gas leak probably caused an explosion that was so violent it leveled a house and lifted the home’s concrete foundation out of the ground.
No one was hurt in the explosion on Friday about 3:40 p.m.
Clarksdale Police Chief Greg Hoskins said it appeared to be caused by natural gas.
No one was home at the time of the blast. Hoskins says it’s a good thing: Debris from the house was scattered across the street and the contents of the house, including a mattress, were blown into surrounding trees.
Surrounding houses also sustained heavy damage.
