PA – Dominion Peoples gas company plans “within the next couple weeks” to begin replacing the entire 2,000-foot gas line on the side of Mardi Gras Drive where a fatal natural gas explosion occurred, a spokesman for the company said Wednesday.
The cost of replacing the 2-inch main line has not been determined, said Dominion spokesman Elmore Lockley. Residents will not be charged.
In addition, Lockley said the company plans to give 150 methane detectors to the borough’s emergency management officials to distribute to residents in the area.
A natural gas explosion at 171 Mardi Gras Drive on March 5 killed Richard J. Leith, 64, of Penn Township, Westmoreland County, and injured his granddaughter, Gianna Pettinato, 4.
