Schuyleville, NY – Capital News 9 – A boat explosion that killed a 58-year-old woman earlier this month was ruled accidental on Tuesday.
State Police said the blast that killed Janet Grondin of Voorheesville was caused by a buildup of either gasoline or propane.
Grondin was sleeping aboard the 35-foot cabin cruiser when it exploded near Lock 5 on the Hudson River in Schuylerville.
Her 63-year-old husband, Andre, tried to rescue her, but was repelled by flames. He was thrown from the boat in a second explosion and suffered a broken arm.
The burning boat then floated downstream and sank.
