Preston, CT – Town fire officials are at the scene of a single-family house at 402 Route 2 an explosion blew out the back half and possibly the living room wall of the vacant Cape Cod-style home.

The explosion was reported just before 5 p.m.

Crews from the Preston City and Poquetanuck fire companies had not entered the home, which still had a heavy smell of propane, according to First Selectman Robert Congdon. There was no visible fire.

A propane company had been called to the house, located nearly across the street from the town hall and owned by Karleen and Phyllis Knutson, according to scanner reports.

Traffic along Route 2, the main throughway between the region’s two casinos, has not been affected.
