Columbus, OH – – Three Columbus families were left homeless Saturday after a gas explosion blew the wall off their apartment building.

No one was hurt in the blast on the city’s south side.

Fire chief Charley Campbell said an electric furnace ignited gas that had leaked into an empty apartment on one end of the building.

Neighbor Tammy Helem said she felt a tremor and looked outside to see that the side of the building was gone.

The displaced families include nine children.
