Beech Grove, IN – A carbon monoxide leak at a Beech Grove business sent at least seven employees to the hospital on Wednesday.

The Beech Grove Fire Department responded to the late-afternoon incident at Elmco Engineering, 6107 Churchman Bypass. That’s near I-465.

Seven workers were taken to the hospital, while others were being evaluated at the scene, according to the fire department.

None of the injuries are believed to be serious.

First responders say the situation could have been much worse.

“If they hadn’t of caught it and started evacuating the personnel like they did it could lead to unconsciousness and even death,” Jim Pierce, Operation Chief of Beech Grove Fire Department, said.

Firefighters say the employees did the right thing by recognizing there was a problem and evacuating the building.

As of right now, there are no reports of what caused the leak.
