Eau Claire, WI – Firefighters in Spooner say propane caught fire on March 18, which led to the explosion at the Cortec Chemical Plant.
Fire Chief Darren Vik says workers in the plant had problems purging vapor from a gas line.
That’s when it built up and drifted into another part of the building. It set an electric forklift on fire. The building exploded afterwards.
Seventy-five-homes and businesses were evacuated for hours. Two men who were hurt in the blast, Corey Labonte and Aaron Merchant, are still recovering.
Cortec plans to rebuild in the weeks ahead
