Girard, OH – An explosion destroyed a vacant house under renovation in the Youngstown area of northeast Ohio and a natural gas leak is suspected.
The blast in Girard ignited a a fire that gutted an adjacent home and killed two dogs. Neighboring houses were damaged by flying debris.
People in the neighborhood said they had smelled natural gas before Thursday evening’s explosion.
The blast sent debris flying up to five blocks away. Tony Simeone, who lives one mile away, said he was working in his garage when he heard a loud thump from the blast.
