Monson, MA – Officials say two people had to be taken to area hospitals after a Monson home exploded.

Fire Chief George Robichaud says the cause of Tuesday’s explosion is under investigation, but a propane leak is suspected. Investigators are also trying to find out the ignition source.

Robichaud says two males inside the house were hurt. He did not immediately release their names or disclose the nature of their injuries. He said the victims reported the smell of gas shortly before the explosion.

A neighbor ran to the scene after hearing the explosion and pulled one man from under the debris.

Half the house was destroyed in the explosion and the other half collapsed later because of a loss of structural integrity.
